Ingredients

Serves 4

  • Dry roasted coconut - made into small pieces 1 cups

  • Shallots/Pearl onions 5 nos

  • ginger 1 inch

  • Curry leaves 1 sprig

  • Dried red chillies or 1/2 tsp chilli powder (dried red chillies make it tastier) 5-6 nos

  • Tamarind , gooseberry sized 1 nos

  • Salt to taste 1 pinch

Directions

  • 01

    Dry roast the coconut with shell in the gas stove, by carefully placing it on the flame

  • 02

    Turn it around with a tong till golden brown in colour

  • 03

    When it cools down, remove from shell and make slices of the roasted coconut

  • 04

    Alternatively, you can roast fresh coconut slices in a frying pan and sauté until light brown at medium heat

  • 05

    Fry the dry red chillies till they are crispy

  • 06

    When the chillies & coconut cools down, grind it together with shallots, ginger, curry leaves, tamarind and salt

  • 07

    Sprinkle little water if needed

  • 08

    Voila,Chammanthi is ready
