KOVAKKA PEERA VECHATHU

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • Kovakka (Tindora, ivy gourd) 250 gms

  • Pearl onions 2 nos

  • garlic 1 nos

  • Green chilies 2-3 nos

  • curry leaves 2-3 nos

  • Grated coconut 1/2 cups

  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

  • Chilly powder,to suit your taste 2 tsp

  • Cumin/ jeera 1 pinch

  • Cocums (kudam puli ) 2-3 nos

  • Oil 2 tbsp

  • Salt 1 tsp

Directions

    Soak the cocums (kudam puli) in enough water and tear it into small pieces

  • 02

    Crush the grated coconut with the spice powders (chilly & turmeric), cumin, onions, garlic and green chillies

  • 03

    Mix this with sliced Kovakka (Ivygourd) & kudampuli in a claypot

  • 04

    Add salt, sprinkle little water, cover and cook in medium heat

  • 05

    Stir well in between

  • 06

    After 15- 20 minutes, remove the lid and add a spoon or two of oil, ideally coconut oil

  • 07

    Sprinkle curry leaves and remove from heat

  • 08

    Mix well and serve with rice and gravy
