Ingredients

Serves : 3
  • 1/4 kgs kovakkai / ivy gourd


  • 1 nos onion


  • 3-4 nos garlic


  • 2 tbsp oil


  • 1 tsp mustard


  • 1 sprig curry leaves


  • 1 pinch salt


  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder


  • 3 nos to dry roast and grind-red chillies


  • 1 tbsp coriander


  • 2 tbsp chana dal


  • 1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds


  • 1 tbsp peanut

Directions

  • Wash and chop the kovakkai and keep it ready
  • Likewise chop the onions and garlic
  • Heat a pan and dry roast the ingredients mentioned under to dry roast until slightly brown
  • Keep it aside to cool
  • Once cooled grind it into a coarse powder
  • Heat a pan with oil and temper with mustard and curry leaves
  • Add finely chopped garlic and saute till raw smell goes off
  • Add the chopped onions and saute until transparent
  • Now add the chopped tindora, required salt and turmeric powder
  • Mix well and cook covered for 10 mins or until soft
  • Once the kovakkai gets cooked, add the ground powder and mix
  • Saute for additional 2 – 3 mins in medium flame and switch off
  • Kovakkai Curry is ready
  • Serve hot with rice or roti
