Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 1/3 cups barnyard millet (samvat rice )


  • 3 cups milk


  • 15 nos cashew nuts chopped


  • 1 tbsp golden raisins


  • 5 tbsp sugar


  • 1/2 tsp green cardamom powder


  • 9 nos strands of saffron

Directions

  • Soak the barnyard millet in a cup of water for an hour
  • Drain and keep aside
  • Heat the milk on a medium flame
  • When the milk begins to boil, add the soaked barnyard millet to the pan, and stir well
  • Cover the pan and reduce the flame
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for twenty minutes, stirring occasionally
  • After twenty minutes, stir in the sugar until it dissolves
  • Add the cardamom powder and saffron and stir
  • Add the cashew nuts and raisins
  • Allow the payasam to simmer for a minute and then remove it from the stove
  • Garnish with saffron strands
