Ingredients

Serves : 6
  • 500 gms arbi


  • 1 nos onion (make fine paste)


  • 1 tsp garlic paste


  • 1 tbsp mustard paste


  • 1 nos tomato finely chopped


  • 1 tsp lemon juice


  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1 tsp coriander powder


  • 1/4 tsp chilly powder


  • 1/4 tsp kashmiri chilly powder


  • 1 tsp panchforan


  • 3 tbsp mustard oil


  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  • Wash arbi properly to take out soil
  • Peel off them with the help of knief then again wash it
  • Cut it lengthwise in 4-6 pieces as thickness of arbi
  • It can be cut into thick round pieces
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottom kadai on high flame
  • Reduce heat to medium heat
  • Crack panchforan for 20 seconds or it turns to pink colour
  • Add onion paste in oil,fry for 2 minutes or fry till colour starts change in light pink colour
  • Now add garlic paste, stir well and fry for 1 minute
  • Put mustard paste, fry for 2 minutes
  • Stir 2-3 times while cooking
  • Now add turmeric, coriander,both chilly powder, tomato and 2 tbsp water and fry for 5 minutes on low heat with lid
  • Stir 2-3 times in between to prevent from burning masala
  • Now add arbi pieces in masala, cook for 10 - 15 minutes or till oil start coming out from masala
  • Add lemon juice, salt and 2+1/2 cup water for making gravy
  • Cook it for another 15 - 20 minutes on low heat with lid or till arbi turns soft and gravy reaches required thickness
  • Sprinkle coriander leaves and mix well
  • Serve semi hot with rice and chapati,Most of people love to eat this recipe with rice, no dal required with this recipe because of its tangy, spicy and tasty gravy
