Ingredients

Serves : 2
  • 1/2 cups red lentils (masoor dal)


  • 1 cups red/ green chawlai or spinach, finely chopped


  • 1 nos onion, finely chopped


  • 1 nos tomato, finely chopped


  • 6 nos garlic, cloves


  • 1 tsp ginger,grated


  • 1/4 tsp chilly powder


  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder


  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder


  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds


  • 2 nos dry red chilly


  • 2 tbsp mustard oil


  • 1 tsp clarify butter/pure ghee


  • 1-2 nos lemon slice(optional)


  • 1 pinch salt ,to taste

Directions

  • Wash lentils (masoor dal) properly with running water
  • Put lentil, turmeric powder, salt and 1 1/4 cup water in pressure cooker
  • Cook it till two whistles
  • Cool it down naturally
  • Heat a heavy bottom kadai on high flame
  • Add oil and ghee together in kadai
  • Reduce heat on medium flame
  • Crack cumin seeds and dry chilly for 30 seconds
  • Now add garlic, onion and ginger one by one in oil
  • Fry till onion changes in pink colour
  • Now add tomato, chilly powder and cook for 2 minutes
  • Then add chopped saag , 2 pinch of salt and cook for 5 -7 minutes with lid on low flame
  • Now add cooked dal, garam masala and stir very well
  • Cook it for 2 minutes
  • Little hot water can be added at this point as your preference because it becomes thick very soon
  • After adding water boil for another 2 min
  • Serve this healthy and flavourful dal with hot chapati or steamed rice
  • More ghee or lemon juice can be added for extra flavour
