Porridge (oatmeal)


Belly-warmer on a frosty morn. This British breakfast dish is made special with the addition of bananas and raisins.

Serves 4

  • 1cup old fashioned oats

  • 2 1⁄2 cups water

  • 1teaspoon salt

  • 1⁄2 tablespoon sugar

  • 2 bananas, sliced

  • 1⁄2 cup raisins

  • 1pinch ground cinnamon

  • 4teaspoons butter

  • 1⁄2 cup cold milk (or more if desired)

    In a saucepan, combine the oats, water, salt, sugar, and cinnamon.

    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, and simmer until the liquid has been absorbed, stirring frequently.

    Pour into bowls, and top each with a pat of butter, bananas, raisins, and a splash of cold milk.
